I am interested in surfaces--in creating surfaces that interest or surprise me on very smooth and opaque yupo , and in documenting the surfaces I come in contact with in my environments. I work mostly in fluid inks and acrylics and I hope to animate the inanimate and abstract. I look for and try to create meaning, connection and humor, something familiar in the foreign, an association with the abstract.

Transformation and the ability of a material or an object of inspiration to shift between different states of matter, changing their appearance and properties while remaining true to exactly what they are made of, is central to how I think about my work. I used to collect rocks and am fascinated with natural formations, especially as structure relates to surface appearance and function.
